Memory units
A memory is the unit Dimple stores. Text, code, conversation turns, and summaries share one format. Each memory keeps its content, search data, and lifecycle state together.
What a memory contains
Section titled “What a memory contains”| Information | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Content and type | The text or code, plus its content type. |
| Identity | A unique ID and a stable key used for updates and deduplication. |
| Scope | A namespace and optional metadata. |
| Search data | An optional embedding and the model that created it. |
| Lifecycle | State, creation time, and optional expiry. |
Lifecycle
Section titled “Lifecycle”| State | Retrieval behavior |
|---|---|
active | Returned by retrieval. |
superseded | Hidden after a replacement is confirmed. |
archived | Retained but not returned. |
forgotten | Deleted. A retention event may remain. |
Expiry archives a memory after one TTL window and deletes it after a second. An explicit forget deletes it immediately, including its event history.
Code units from the indexer have no expiry by default. See Index a codebase.
